A Relationship in Crisis

A lot of people do not think that what is happening to them is domestic violence. Traditionally, most of us think of domestic violence as "wife battering" and assume that it must include physical violence. However, domestic violence includes a range of behaviors.

What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence can include emotional abuse, physical violence, threats, sexual abuse and stalking by someone you have a relationship with, like a former or current intimate or dating partner, a spouse, a family member or a person you have a child with.

Rather than being an isolated event, domestic violence is often a pattern of behaviors and controlling tactics that result in fear as well as physical and/or psychological harm to victims and their children.

SafeHaven: Emergency Shelter

Our program operates SafeHaven, Lewis County's emergency shelter for female victims of domestic violence and their children. If you are seeking protection from domestic violence, SafeHaven may be an option for you. Call us to plan ahead for safety and to see if SafeHaven is the right choice for you.

Expect Respect in Your Relationship

You deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. No one deserves to be abused! Here are a few things for you to think about:

Are you afraid of your partner's temper? In a respectful relationship conflicts are resolved through negotiation and fairness.

Are you afraid to disagree with him or her? In a respectful relationship both parties are comfortable expressing themselves and all opinions are valued.

Do you not see your friends or family because of his or her jealousy? In a respectful relationship, both parties honor the right to one's own feelings, friends and activities.

Are you forced to explain everything you do, every place you go? Do you have to ask permission to do things? In a respectful relationship your partner trusts you and supports your goals.

Are you constantly anxious about what he or she might do or say to you next? In a respectful relationship, you will feel better, not worse. You will trust your partner to be emotionally affirming.

Has this relationship changed your life or your self in a way that you do not like? In a respectful relationship your partner will support you in becoming the best you can be!

Advocacy is All About Supporting You

Human Response Network's domestic violence program is here to help you get or stay physically and emotionally safe. We are advocates -- an advocate is someone who will support you and act on your behalf. Our program offers a wide range of services that all depend on what you want and need. We will examine all the options with you; we will not pressure you to make choices. We will serve you whether or not you want to leave the relationship, and whether or not you want to deal with the legal system.

Support Groups

Women Supporting Women: Domestic Violence Survivors support group Wednesday nights, child care is provided! Make an appointment with an advocate to sign up.
